What we measure

GreenCount is for SME product-level carbon assessment and carbon labelling. You describe a product; we match a Knowledge Pack (coffee, tea, spices, cashew today), collect activity facts, and issue a screening carbon label with hotspots, PDF, and an optional public verify page.

System boundary — cradle-to-gate

Default boundary is cradle-to-gate: cultivation → processing and energy → packaging at the facility → inbound transport. Pack copy states the exact gate (for example farm → roast → pack for coffee).

Out of scope: consumer use, retail, and end-of-life (not cradle-to-grave). Downstream logistics only if you enter them.

Emission factors

Factors live in versioned Knowledge Packs (L1 screening defaults with provenance notes). The language model does not invent kg CO₂e. Shared rows include India grid screening (CEA-aligned order of magnitude), freight, and packaging. Crop packs override cultivation and process add-ons.

Measured vs estimated

Your facts — volume, process route, energy, packaging — when you provide them.
Pack defaults — used when a fact is missing; shown as lower data quality.
Optional activities left blank contribute zero (not a hidden average).
Confidence notes on the label say what would raise certainty (metered kWh, primary farm data).

GWP and units

Results are reported as kg CO₂e per functional unit (100-year GWP reporting convention). L1 packs are a screening mix: some source rows (notably India grid CEA baselines) are often CO₂-only, not a full Kyoto / IPCC AR6 basket. Do not treat totals as inventory-grade GWP100 until L2 lock.

Assumptions we disclose

Organic flag applies an indicative 8% cultivation credit only — not a certification claim.
Annual volume normalises a per-unit result from the screening total.
Every label carries a screening disclaimer. Sources & method cites curated pack evidence, not live search.

What we are not

Not ISO 14067 or a certified LCA
Not ecoinvent / Agri-footprint licensed rows
Not a government filing or offset product
Not generic “AI ESG” scoring for the whole company

Industry coverage

Packs today: coffee, tea, spices, cashew. Other SME categories (including handicrafts) are on the roadmap — we will not invent a pack or a number for them until factors are reviewed.
